The Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) extends the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) with key extensions for automotive use. While Android Auto is a feature for mobile phone projection, (AAOS) is a complete OS that supports the majority of the features for today’s In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems.

With Android R release in 2020, AAOS is expected to have features that are in-line with major competitors such as QNX, GENIVI and AGL.

As a Google 3PL Partner, we have certified 190+ headunits on Android Auto Projection for OEMs and Tier 1s. HARMAN has implemented a number of customized HMI designs for various OEMs that use widget-based HMI concepts compatible with the Android overview/home widget.

 

HARMAN assets are utilized to fast track AAOS Integration on headunits with common UI library providing app-consistency and reduced effort. Also, they provide assets for logging, audit, monitoring and diagnostics. Additionally, the have extensions for Android HAL to add more automotive features as well as to provide quick integration with audio, connectivity, tuner, media and ADAS. HARMAN also have assets for system level features like notifications, global search, Fastboot (S2R), persistency / power nodes, cockpit emulators, multi-screen, multi-user, voice services, east to west communication and a hybrid inference engine.​
